Rare Books

To Our Margaret Coel Admirers
** Special Commemorative Editions **

These very special editions, published to commemorate the tenth anniversary of The Eagle Catcher, are soon going to become rare collector's editions. First, the books are larger in size than a normal hardcover (about the size of a piece of paper). Second, the print is correspondingly larger. Next, the book has 40 interior illustrations of the characters and the setting by acclaimed illustrator Phil Parks, who has also done the illustration for the dustjacket. Then, there is a new introduction by Margaret Coel, an afterword by Phil Parks on the challenges he faced in illustrating the characters and places so familiar to us, and a brief comment by Tony Hillerman on the back of the dustjacket. Finally, both Margaret Coel and Phil Parks have signed each one. Indeed, these really are special editions; words do not adequately describe them. You must see them to realize just how special they are! We have a very limited number of copies.

However, as grand as those "trade hardcover editions" are, they pale beside the "collector hardback editions". These numbered limited editions (only 40 published) come in an exquisite cork clamshell presentation case, and the book itself is bound to match. The exterior of the clamshell case and the cover of the book have an eagle illustration. The book is housed in the right side of the clamshell and one of the original illustrations, from the chapter whose number corresponds to the number of the volume, is mounted in the left side of the clamshell case. The limitation page has the signatures of both Margaret Coel and Phil Parks; in addition Margaret Coel has handwritten the title in the Arapaho language. Mso included is one of Vicky Holden's business cards for those who may need her legal services. According to Margaret Coel's website, this edition has been sold out (what a surprise!), and as of this time, copies are listed on the internet for as much as $450.00.
